  • On the first day of Spirit Week my school gave to me - That's right Grice Gladiators, Monday continues the 10 Days of School Spirit here at Grice Middle School. Today's theme is "Nightmare Before Christmas" Day. Wear black and white or Halloween themed clothes. Monday's theme is Plaid & Joy Day. Wear plaid or flannel shirts with jeans. We will announce the grade level standings after Week 1 at the end of the day today. We can't wait to see which grade has had the most school spirit this week. The results are in: In 3rd place is 6th grade with 88 points, in 2nd place is 8th grade with 135 points and in 1st place is...7th grade with 216 points. Congratulations! Don't forget Thursday, December 22nd is our annual Ugly Sweater Contest. Prizes will be awarded in all three lunches for the Ugliest sweaters.  
  • We're excited to announce our November and December Monthly Challenge: "No Tickets, No Problem" which will run from November 1st to December 13th! To qualify for this challenge, you need to remain TICKET FREE. Just a reminder: Arrive to class on time; follow all hallway rules and expectations, use appropriate language and behavior, respect your classmates and staff. All students who remain ticket free will earn a tasty trat, plus you'll be entered into a drawing for free talent show tickets! Let's work together to make these months the best they can be.

Winners will recreate their artwork on a poster which will be framed and hung in the Library. Detailed information will be posted in your Google Classrooms.   • Talent Show: The annual Grice Talent Show is coming soon! Come see your friends as they perform for you during the school day on December 20, 2024. Tickets are $5.00 and can be purchased in home base starting Monday, December 16th through Thursday, December 19th. No tickets will be sold the day of the Talent Show. We hope to see you there!

Don't forget Thursday, December 22nd is our annual Ugly Sweater Contest. Prizes will be awarded in all three lunches for the Ugliest sweaters. Today is the last day to submit your application for the Mean Girls Jr Stage Crew for all students interested in joining the crew behind the scenes of this amazing production. Homebase teachers will be asked to take a quick count of how many students in their homebase are wearing that color and input that number in the Google form by the end of the period. The homebase with the most awareness will win a sweet treat! Last month for World Kindness Day, Ms. Smith's homebase won for 6th grade, Mrs. Illgen's homebase won for 7th grade and Ms. Popek's homebase won for 8th grade. Who will win a sweet treat for this month?

  • Bright Club & Diversity Club: The Bright Club & Diversity Club are sponsoring Grice Color Challenge Days. This is how it works: Color: All homebase classes will be challenged to wear a certain color to spread awareness for a cause. Homebase teachers will be asked to take a quick count of how many students in their homebase are wearing that color and input that number in the google form by the end of the period. The homebase with the most awareness will win a sweet treat! Our first color challenge day will be Wednesday, November 13th as we celebrate World Kindness Day! PLEASE WEAR BLUE!
  • Environmental Club: Are you passionate about making Grice Greener and protecting our planet at the same time? Join the Environmental Club and make a difference! Let's get comfortable with ourselves and who we are as we choose to be drug free. Also - as we "FALL BACK" this weekend for the "TIME CHANGE," let's wear our comfy clothes, sweatpants or sweatshirts - no pajamas.
  • Library: And now some news from the Library! Attention Students: Last year we had some VERY TALENTED student artists who created some AMAZING artwork for the Grice Library walls. We are looking for artists to participate in our BOOK COVER ART CONTEST.  Interested students will sketch the cover of a favorite middle school book. Winners will recreate their artwork on a poster which will be framed and hung in the Library. Detailed information will be posted in your Google Classrooms. If you have any questions, see Mrs. Micharski in the Library.
  • School Store: Attention 6th graders - The School Store will be open this week on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday during period 4 lunch. Stop by and see our newest selection to erasers and school supplies.

Other effects include changes in mood, difficulty with thinking and problem-solving and impaired memory. It is also noted that teens that use marijuana can lose an average of eight IQ points. Today's theme is "SAY BOO TO DRUGS!" As some may go trick or treating today for Halloween - we all choose everyday to be safe and to be drug free everyday. Every Day in America, more than 270 people die from an opioid overdose. Today's theme is "Pink Out Day!" We are wearing PINK for Breast Cancer Awareness and because at Grice we are TOO BRIGHT for Drugs - We are shining drug free with our Pink colors today! Tomorrow's theme is 'SAY BOO TO DRUGS!" Special Agent Camarena gave his life fighting the war on drugs. Please choose to live a drug free life! Drug Fact #2: Alcohol is a drug. Alcohol abuse is a pattern of problem drinking that results in health consequences, social problems or both. Today's theme is "Western Day!" We are wearing flannels and plaid or country music shirts.   • Violence Awareness Week: Today concludes Violence Awareness and Prevention Week. We are wearing orange and black today. Wearing orange represents gun violence awareness. Over 656,000 physical assault injuries in young people aged 10 to 24 were treated in United States emergency rooms in just one year.  If you suspect someone close to you is being abused in any way, please tell a responsible adult. The worst thing you can do is to look the other way and remain silent!

  • Violence Awareness Week: This week is Violence Prevention and Awareness Week. Youth violence is widespread in the United States. It is the second leading cause of death for young people between the ages of 10 and 24. Youth violence involves a victim, an offender, or a witness to the violence. 1 in 3 young people will experience dating violence. Dating Violence is when you are in an unhealthy or abusive relationship. Dating Violence and Harrassment, Intimidation and Bullying reporting forms are always available to you. If you have any questions, please see the Guidance Department. "Today is Wear Purple Day."  We Wear Purple today as a sign of peace and anti-violence. Tomorrow's theme day is "Sock It to Violence Day!" Please wear your crazy socks!

  • Violence Awareness Week: This week is Violence Prevention and Awareness Week. Over 656,000 physical assault injuries in young people aged 10-24 were treated in the United States emergency rooms in just one year. If you suspect someone close to you is being abused in any way, please tell a responsible adult. The worst thing you can do is to look the other way and remain silent! Today's Theme is "Putting Violence to Bed" by Wearing Appropriate Pajama Pants. Tomorrow is "Wear Purple Day!" We wear purple tomorrow as a sign of peace and anti-violence.

Please support us by donating canned and non-perishable items such as mashed potatoes, stuffing, gravy, soup, cornbread mix, vegetables, fruits, cereal, oatmeal and jello.  All items donated will go to Grice families this holiday season. This Thursday we will hold a Cans for Chips Drive. Any student who donates an item to the Food Drive in front of the Auditorium between 7:45 - 8:15 a.m. will receive a bag of chips! Give thanks and contribute!

  • Today is a double Holiday: Columbus Day and Indigenous Peoples' Day.  Both fall on today.  Columbus Day, which is a federal holiday, is "one of the most inconsistently celebrated U.S. holidays. Columbus Day is a U.S. federal holiday commemorating explorer Christopher Columbus' landing in the New World on October 14, 1492. Indigenous Peoples' Day has been recognized through proclamation for the past several years. It is not a federal holiday, but President Joe Biden proclaimed the day to "honor perseverance and courage of Indigenous People."

Today's Quote of the Day for the week of respect is: "Respect is a virtue of the noble. Great people climbed the ladder of success when they shed their ego and embraced humility. When you respect others, you respect yourself. Stand tall amongst your peers and mentors by giving them respect. Today's theme for Week of Respect is "Twin Day! Let's all take a stand against bullying!-Stand together with your friends as we dress similarl today. Today during the lunches there will be an anti-bullying prevention table set up. Stop over and visit it.

Let's make this a fun and competitive way to encourage each other to be present! The winning home bases will be rewarded with FREE Chick-fil-A Coupons and students will be entered into a drawing for FREE Turkey Shoot admission!

Garcia bravely fought while injured to help his fellow soldiers while serving in Germany in 1944.
