Policies and Procedures

Hours

  • The Media Center is open from 8:00 a.m. to 3:15 p.m.
  • Students must have a pass to visit the library before school, during classes, and during lunches.
  • Students may use the library to check out books, return materials, and/or use computers to complete or print academic assignments.  
  • Students will be scheduled for circulation with their ELA teachers once every three weeks to select materials for personal enjoyment and/or for class assignments.
  • The library will be closed to students if the librarian is not present.  

Library Visits

  • Students must have a pass to visit the library before school, during classes, and during lunches.
  • Before school, students must obtain a numbered library pass from a staff member in the main hallway.
  • During lunches, students must eat FIRST and then show the staff member on duty a pass signed by a classroom teacher before reporting to the library.
  • During classes, students must have a pass signed by a classroom teacher to use the library.
  • Students are required to sign in digitally upon entry using the laptop located at the circulation desk.  
  • All passes are to be deposited in the cup at the circulation desk.
  • Once students are signed in, they are not permitted to leave the library until the end of the period unless the librarian provides a pass.

Student Conduct

  • Students are expected to adhere to the following rules of conduct.  Any student not following these guidelines will be asked to leave the media center.

  • Be respectful of the library staff and other patrons.
  • Treat library materials and equipment with care.
  • Browse, work, or read quietly.
  • Food and drink are not allowed in the media center.

Book Circulation

  • Students may borrow a maximum of 4 books.
  • Books may be borrowed for a 3 week period.
  • Students are responsible for returning books in a timely manner.  Students should return books on or before the due date stamped inside.
  • A fine of 5 cents per day, per book will be charged for overdue books.
  • Students are responsible for lost or damaged books.  Replacement costs will be charged for lost books.  Payment for lost books will be reimbursed if found and returned in good condition.
  • Magazines and comic books are for use in the library only and may not be checked out.
